G02 / TRAVEL BASICS

Ordering at a restaurant

Use a few words and point to the menu to confirm your order.

01

Wait to be seated

Tell staff how many people are in your group and follow their directions. Ordering may happen at a ticket machine, counter or table. If there is a queue, ask where to wait before joining it.

02

Choose from the menu

Point to the item name or picture to make your choice clear. Ask what a set includes and confirm the portion and price before ordering. A photograph alone cannot tell you every ingredient or preparation method.

03

Confirm your order

The phrase card for ordering asks for one of the item you point to. Show the quantity separately if you want more. When staff repeat the order, check the item and number. Ask whether takeaway is available before ordering it.

04

Ask for the bill

Check your bill or the restaurant’s instructions and ask to pay when needed. Payment locations and accepted methods differ between restaurants. Ask before taking leftovers away; it may not be permitted.
