G01 / TRAVEL BASICS

Before you board a train

Check your destination, line and platform, one step at a time.

01

Check your destination and line

Look up the railway operator and line as well as the station name. Entrances and ticket gates for stations with the same name can be some distance apart. Keep the destination station and intended exit handy so you can show them to staff.

02

Choose how to pay

Check the operator’s official instructions for tickets and IC cards on your route. Accepted payment methods and coverage vary. If you are unsure, ask where to buy a ticket before entering the gates.

03

Check the platform and train

Read the destination display and platform number rather than relying on line colours alone. Trains from the same platform may have different destinations or stops. Show your destination to staff if you need to confirm which train to board.

04

Pause when you need help

Move out of the flow of passengers before opening your map or asking a question. Check the operator’s current service information and last-train details on the day you travel. This guide does not provide live timetables or fares.
